Why a Newcastle engineering firm is a big supporter of Special Children's Christmas Parties

Edwards & Vickerman Consulting Engineers is based in Newcastle and specialises in HVAC (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning) design for buildings. Since opening their doors back in 2011 (yes – it's their 10th birthday this year), they have been involved in a very broad range of projects, ranging from commercial buildings to schools, TAFEs and universities, industrial and science complexes and residential and retail installation design.

Jonathan Vickerman leads a team of people that between them have over 50 years experience in the field.

For the past six years they have also been enthusiastic supporters of the Special Children's Christmas Party.

“It's always been important for us to contribute back to society. Six years ago we came across the Special Children's Christmas Parties organisation and immediately recognised that this was something we should get behind.” explains Managing Director Jonathan Vickerman.”We've always made a point of getting along to the party every year and helping out doing whatever needs doing – at the last one we were giving out the fluffy toys and Christmas presents to the children. Our whole team come along to the parties every year and we bring our families too. One year my mother was over from the UK and she came along as well!”

“It's simply not possible to put the parties on without the continued support of businesses like Edwards & Vickerman.” says Special Children's Christmas Parties organiser Annemarie Hodson. “Their support allows us to in turn support special children and their families at this time of year, when our thoughts are always with our children. Even though COVID has thrown us a bit of a curveball again this year, and has stopped us from holding the party, we will be making sure that a lot of very special children will be getting the Christmas presents they would have received at the party, and we'll be putting on a virtual party for them all in the run up to Christmas. Hopefully everything will be 'back to normal' – or as close as - next year.”

And it's very easy for Jonathan to remember how long the firm has been supporting the parties – they have five plaques on display in their office to remind him!
