| BRIGHT and early on Saturday (14-11-09), the
team and I from Lane Orthodontics made our way to the Fred Moule Pavilion
for the Special Children's Christmas Party. We decided months ago that we were going to volunteer to help out at this year's event, and what an event it turned out to be. Not knowing what to expect, we were all instantly sucked into the uplifting and joyous occasion that was to follow on the day. Our team was posted in the kitchen and was required to hand out the lunch packs for the special guests on the day. Every child I served thanked me with a big smile and their enthusiasm was devastatingly contagious. There were singers and dancers, a merry-go-round and a jumping castle, a fairy and face painting. Children's faces were lit up with life and laughter and when I looked around, the Mums and Dads were just as happy, and it was a wonderful feeling to be helping out these special families. When it came time to leave, I really didn't want the occasion to end, but even though I was leaving empty-handed, I was leaving with a heart overflowing with joy and community spirit. Your own time is a valuable gift to give, but the feeling you receive from the time given is a gift you won't soon forget. Volunteering to help at the Special Children's Christmas Party was one of the most uplifting experiences I've ever had and our team will be there every year we can. Mandy Pearce, Cairns. If you, your organisation or community group would like to volunteer at any of the Special Children's Christmas Parties please contact one of our offices for further information. |
